Thanks
to all who volunteered and participated in the Relay Loooong Contradance!
St. Denis Parish Hall in North Whitefield was the place to be on Saturday March 8, 2008 as United Maine Fiddlers presented a 12 hour Contradance Marathon to raise money as part of the Relay for Life which benefits the American Cancer Society. Six of Maine's hottest contradance bands provided a delightful mix of old-time, Quebecois, Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton, southern, and New England jigs and reels - and even a few originals thrown in for good measure! Dancers were led by a combination of seasoned and new-to-the-scene-this-year callers, offering a wonderful mix of figures that kept the floor busy all day long. Waltzes and other couple dances filled in the spaces during band changes, so it was truly a 12 hour marathon of continuous dancing.
This year's dance marathon grew out of last year's Fiddler's Marathon Jam.
All proceeds benefit the dance, which benefits Relay for Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society, which benefits someone you know and love! This event is being held in conjunction with Brunswick Relay for Life.
